Monday 25 June 2012

I had the great opportunity to interview Mr John Vlismas live on air Friday 24 February 2012, promoting a new way for standup comedy in South Africa. On the last Monday of every month John arranges a group of comedians for live standup comedy on a stage, in a movie house and in front of an audience eating popcorn and slush puppy.

As part of Whacked’s initiative to grow and showcase young comedic talent in South Africa, owners Taffia Keight (newly appointed) and John Vlismas believe that it is time to change the nature of their comedy “playground”.

“When the Underground closed its doors, we felt we were at a crossroads – we could either find a way to clone what we started, or we could look to evolve the idea, and set a new challenge,” says Taffia, “Well, we don’t copy anyone, not even ourselves.”

The first CineComedy event took place on Thursday 1 March at 8pm at CineCentre, Killarney Mall. Listen to the interview from my mixcloud page:

The next Cinecomedy event takes place tonight 25 June 2012 at the CineCentre in Killarney Mall at 8pm.
